ReThink

Difficulty : 1.5/5 (Easy)
Global : 2/5 (Good)

This review was written after I’ve finished ReThink 1 and 2, as well as Evolved 1 and 2.

ReThink is a puzzle game series that only revolves around lasers, set in a relaxing futuristic facility. Each puzzle gives you a number of cubes you need to place in certain spots to organize and redirect the lasers so that they correctly light all the receptors.

“Classic” you might think, but… not really. In ReThink, you have to deal with several colored lasers you need to mix, not just one. In addition, the cubes are varied and can duplicate a laser, separate its colors, alternate between several directions…

Nevertheless ReThink 1 is not very hard, the game is done in 5h and you may want to drop the series because of that: I am here precisely to dissuade you.
ReThink 1 is a good introduction (and it costs peanuts anyway) but it’s in ReThink 2 that the series really grows. The duration of the game is tripled with the same number of puzzles (took me 15h), real understanding of the game’s mechanics is absolutely necessary and you WILL get stuck on some levels.
If you’ve come across the ReThink series, it’s because you like puzzles: so don’t stop at ReThink and play ReThink 2 as well, you’ll see.

Finally, I’ll talk a little about Evolved. This other series is more free in its gameplay: there’s no mandatory spots to place the cubes since this time you carry them directly like in Portal or Talos.
I recommend it less than the original series. Evolved 1 is also an intro without real difficulty, but this time the second opus is also quite simple (at least I never got stuck). It should be noted, however, that the puzzles in Evolved 2 are not bad at all and clearly an improvement once again. We never have the impression that the puzzles are “free”, thinking and satisfaction are always present especially when several puzzles combine to form a larger one.

ReThink 2 was such a good surprise that I felt obliged to do a review of the series. I’ll end by thanking you for reading, and hopefully encouraging some people to start!
